Training a Horse That Crowds the Gate

A horse that isn’t calm has a higher probability of being dangerous than one that is standing around calmly. In this video we talk about gate crowding, which can also be about being buddy sour or barn sour or whatever sour, but essentially is an anxiety in the horse.

This particular behaviour can be hard to contain if let build and continue over time, it’s always best to help the horse out by establishing a new routine that involves being calm and away from the place they want to be. This includes providing the support they need by letting them know they’ll be ok, but also firm to get the respect required to stay safe.

In the end, this video is about safety around horses. A calm horse has a much higher probability of being a safe horse.
